NDA Exam Pattern 

UPSC, Union Public Service Commission, conducts the NDA examination twice a year. The examination is of two stages, which comprise a written examination and an interview round.  

Written Examination 

  • Mathematics  

This paper is of 300 marks consisting of 120 questions for which 2.5 hour is provided to the candidates. The mathematics papers help to determine the candidate’s proficiency in topics such as algebra, trigonometry and calculus.  

  • General Ability Test 

The GAT paper is of 600 marks for which 2.5 hours are given to complete the paper. There are two sections in this paper such as English and General Knowledge. The English part is to analyze candidates’ command over language, whereas the General Knowledge section includes subjects like chemistry, physics, current affairs, history and geography.  

  • Negative Marking 

While appearing for the NDA examination, it is important to note that there is a penalty for wrong answers in the objective-type questions. For every incorrect response, one-third of the marks assigned will be deducted.  

Interview Round 

  • Intelligence and Personality Test  

In this test, the mental and physical attributes of candidates are assessed. This test is of total 900 marks. The interview panel evaluates qualities such as communication skills, leadership, and overall suitability for a career in the armed forces.  

  • Medical Examination 

Candidates who clear the written and interview stages have to undergo a complete medical examination. This test ensures you meet the physical fitness standards necessary for military service.
