National Defense Academy is the joint services academy of the Indian Armed Forces. The UPSC conducts the NDA exam twice a year. This exam is highly sought after by those who wish to join the Indian defence forces as an officer. The selection will be done based on a written test followed by a personality test. 

NDA EXAM SYLLABUS 

The NDA entrance exam syllabus has two sections for the written test. One is a General Ability Test also known as GTA which tests your knowledge of subjects like history, mathematics, GK, current affairs, English, science and geography. The mathematics paper on the other hand will have questions based on 10+2. The GAT paper has the most weightage of 600 marks while the mathematics has a weightage of 300 marks. Students who obtain the cut-off marks in this exam will be eligible for the SBB/interview which is again conducted by the UPSC. 

NDA EXAM DISTRIBUTION 

In the NDA GAT exam, the maximum weightage is given for the English language which will be of 200  marks.  Other subjects in the NDA exam syllabus are physics will be 100 marks, chemistry will be of 60 marks, general science which will be of 40 marks, history which will be for 80 marks, geography which will be of 80 marks and current events which will be of 40 marks. 

The mathematics exam will be for 300 marks and will have 5 subjects. Calculus will be for 50-62.5 marks, quadratic equations will be for 37.5-50 marks, matrices and determinants will be for 75 marks, the probability will be for 25 marks, trigonometry will be for 75 marks and complex numbers will be for 25-37.5 marks. 

NDA EXAM MARKING SCHEME 

The NDA Exam pattern will have two subjects-mathematics and GAT. In the mathematics paper, there will be 120 questions of 300 marks. Each individual question will be of 2.5 marks if the answer is correct. For each wrong answer, 0.83 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer. 

The General ability test will be of 600 marks wherein 200 marks will be for English and 400 marks for GK and there will be a total of 150 questions, 50 from English and 100 from GK. 4 marks will be awarded for every correct answer and 1.33 marks will be deducted for a wrong answer. No marks will be deducted for unanswered questions.
